Fall Weekend Camp Counselor - Fall 2024 Extended Season - Camp Sea Gull and Seafarer

You must be able to work at least two of the following weekends:

August 11-16 Embark Family Camp week at Seafarer
August 17-18 F3 Dads at Sea Gull

August 30 - September 2 Labor Day Family Camp Weekend at Seafarer

September 6- 8 Mother Daughter Weekend at Seafarer

September 13- 15 Father Son at Sea Gull/YOTA

September 21-22 Women's Wellness

September 27-28 ATF Weekend

November 1-3 Military Family Weekend at Seafarer

POSITION SUMMARY:

In keeping with the mission of the YMCA and Camps Sea Gull and Seafarer, a weekend activity staff member assists the directors in running safe and fun programs that are focused on character and skill development. Furthermore, weekend activity staff will perform all duties as assigned, as well as ensure the safety and wellbeing of the participants in their care.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  • Supervise and facilitate assigned weekend activity including, but not limited to, Creative Arts, Archery, Riflery, Canoeing, Zipline, Swimming as certification level permits
  • To provide an environment of physical, mental and spiritual safety for all participants
  • In collaboration with directors and other staff, provide a positive atmosphere for personal leadership development
  • In coordination with other staff and participants, maintain a safe and clean activity area
  • Serve as a role model for other staff and participants, exemplifying the importance of safety, skill development, fun, enthusiasm and leadership
  • Follow your signed contract of Camps Sea Gull and Seafarer and always be a team player
  • Promptness to all assignments is required
  • Attend all meetings required for weekend activity staff
  • Be flexible and perform any duties as assigned by the directors
  • Participate in camp functions with enthusiasm

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Works well with children and adults
  • Willing to work cooperatively with other staff members
  • Willing and able to work outdoors
  • Creative self-starter willing to follow through
  • First Aid / CPR / CDL / Lifeguard / Coast Guard Certification a plus

EXPECTATIONS:
  • There is an expectation in this position that you will be ready and willing to pitch in whenever and wherever the need arises. There will be times that requests will be made of you that are outside your job description. A positive attitude in responding to these requests is an important part of your leadership on the team.
  • We require employees to comply with all COVID related PPE, cleaning, reporting and prevention expectations efforts. Further training and detail will be provided upon question and/or hire.

DETAILS:
  • Overnight accommodations will be available but are not required
  • All meals will be provided (Friday dinner; Saturday breakfast, lunch, and dinner; Sunday breakfast and lunch)
  • You will receive a staff shirt to wear when you work
  • Working on Friday afternoon is not required, but please offer to work Friday afternoons as you are able
  • Staff meetings on Saturday and Sunday mornings are required
