Climbing Wall Attendant-Family Programs-Kerr Family YMCA-Part Time


The Climbing Wall Attendant provides supervision and controlled participation on the climbing wall. They are responsible for managing the functions of the program in accordance with the stated mission, goals and policies established by the administrative staff, governing committees and Board of Directors of the YMCA.

Job Schedule (Time):

Saturdays 8:45am-1pm & weekday evening subs

  • Maintains a fun, safe and disciplined atmosphere.
  • Encourages proper use of Belay techniques by members.
  • Maintains order in the climbing wall area.
  • Communicates program information and other items of interest to members.
  • Informs supervisor of daily operational needs, problems, and member feedback.
  • Attends staff meetings and training.
  • Performs all job tasks within YMCA of the Triangle Area's program guidelines.
  • Works as a Team Player with co-workers and in conjunction with other departments.
  • Maintains positive relations with parents and other staff.
  • Models relationship-building skills in all interactions with participants, parents, staff and leadership.
  • Maintains regular, clear, and concise communication within area of responsibility.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor.

  • Experience with climbing, knowledge of belaying procedures and belay certifications are preferred, but not required. Training will be provided if necessary.
  • An understanding of safety protocols and an ability to implement safety procedures when necessary.
  • Requires a positive attitude, high level of initiative and professionalism, and enjoy working in and creating a strong team environment.
  • Must obtain certifications from the YMCA in Basic Life Support, First Aid and Emergency Oxygen upon hire.
  • Availability to work weekends.
  • Multi-lingual desired but not required.

  • Must be at least 16 years old.
  • Must be able to climb and assist on the rock wall as needed, assist and inspect safety equipment, and perform maintenance on the wall and the attached holds.
  • Must be comfortable with heights and assisting and coaching staff and members while on the rock wall.
  • Corrected vision, speech, and hearing to normal range, or have special accommodations made of sufficient nature for completion of assigned tasks.
  • Ability to lift and carry a minimum of 50 pounds, as well as stand, walk, kneel, stoop, bend, and climb.
  • Ability to climb and assist on rock wall as needed.
  • Ability to quickly adapt to change, work under stressful conditions, be responsible for others, and communicate clearly through written and verbal communication.
